MichaelD Lifer. Jan 16, 31, 3 As you should've already surmised, buying an Open Box or Returned item is a total crapshoot.

He let the magic smoke out of all of it and returned it as "doesn't work". Most etailers just throw that crap back on the shelves and sell it at cost. Used parts are great if you can buy them in person and verify they work. Buying them sight unseen is the worst idea ever to save a few bucks. BonzaiDuck Lifer. Jun 30, 15, 1, You have my vote there. I was at least lucky that the seller ran a small computer store in the Bay Area, and was inclined to protect her business reputation.

But someone had attempted to socket bit modules in the board and rendered it inoperable. Luckily, I got my money back. The-Noid Diamond Member. You can contact the customer service manager Eric Sandoval for clarification. NewEgg does not test open box items for functionality. There are many users here with defective open box items, and many without any issue except for missing back plates, etc Buyer beware.

Open box is still crap shoot no matter how you look at it. You may get a good deal on a brand spanking new box with everything included, or you may get something important missing. Or it has a minor defect that may not show up in a quick test, or it's dead. It's Open Box. Guess the odds played out on you. Knock on wood. Out of the dozens of open box items I've only had to return one and Newegg was slick and quick about the whole deal.

Emailed me a shipping label and sent a replacement out the same day. Always call and talk to someone live there. The automated process is good but there CS is better. Steve: Yeah, I'm just waiting for Keith's wife to die from lupus and then we're gonna get an apartment together.

I am confused as to why there was surprise at an "open box" item being used? I guess they just aren't in a hurry to give us a refund.

If I were a company trying to make right something that went wrong, I'd be moving as fast as possible to make the customer happy!
