It is the message of grace…A grace that pays the eager beaver who works all day long the same wages as the grinning drunk who shows up at ten till five…A grace that hikes up the robe and runs breakneck toward the prodigal reeking of sin and wraps him up and decides to throw a party no ifs, ands, or buts…This grace is indiscriminate compassion.
It works without asking anything of us…Grace is sufficient even though we huff and puff with all our might to try to find something or someone it cannot cover. Grace is enough…Jesus is enough. It works without asking anything of us.
It's not cheap. It's free, and as such will always be a banana peel for the Orthodox foot and a fairy tale for the grown-up sensibility. Grace is sufficient even though we huff and puff with all our might to try to find something or someone it cannot cover. Grace is enough. He is enough. Jesus is enough. John, the disciple Jesus loved, ended his first letter with this line: "Children, be on your guard against false gods. Abba will's love cannot be comprehended.
I'll say it again: Abba's love cannot be comprehended. What was impossible to realize at the time was that I was shooting myself in the head in some strange time warp where the bullet takes many years to finally reach its target. It is by the dim-eyed who showed the path to others but kept losing his way. It is by the wet-brained who believed if a little wine is good for the stomach, then a lot is great.
The most generous, selfless, lavish gift we will ever be given. Sisters, this is profound beyond words. Have you truly received the knowledge of this tender gift from the Lord deep within your heart and soul? It changes everything. Our salvation is not earned, but freely given. It can be hard to really comprehend, particularly living in a society where so much value is placed on working to achieve a goal, a society where busyness is seen as equivalent to success.
It simply is not so in the Kingdom of God. Instead, we are given grace without reserve, that we might go forth, building the Kingdom and inviting others to know Jesus. For this great gift is not for us alone.
Let us set our eyes on eternal life, sisters. Let us place our hope in the great gift of our salvation. For this gift is everything.
But a few years ago, a friend quoted St. Therese "Everything is grace And I tried, and I searched for grace. And I discovered that everything indeed was grace. I began to read about St. Therese and was inspired by her words! Therese Lisieux. I hope to share more about her in my next posts. Meanwhile, be also inspired by some of her quotes. How has St.
