If this port is not open then you will not have external access tom Companyweb at all. Port — is an optional port. You will need this open if you wish to use VPN to access the network remotely. May people believe they need this open to access the server from remote locations — that is incorrect. Having this port open to the Internet without restriction is a security issue as it then gives remote people direct console access to attempt to penetrate your server.
Thanks Wayne. Good points. They had for some reason 2 modems on our account but just fixed that, but that didn't solve the issue. I'm thinking it has to be something on the server itself because when I ran the mxtoolbox port scan again for my static ip, every single port says its blocked, which just seems very odd. Is the IP your server pulled the same one that resolves when you ping your mail dns name? Which would explain why all ports are showing up blocked.
Have you tried pinging your mail record from outside your domain? I just want to make sure than when you ping your mail. But i didn't think anything of it until you said something about it. The only thing should be for my static IP, so when I do a lookup for the gateway IP, shouldn't be associated at all with my domain name. But have to see if that is the case so when I get into the account I can make sure there is no issue, and if there is, take care of it.
Try to telnet into the email server using port 25 from an external location and also try it internally and see what happens. I am guessing they are blocking the port or there is a firewall blocking it. While your at it.. Ok so I finally get into the account and think I figured out the problem dns wasn't configured correctly at all.
But now here is the strange thing, there is no reference whatsoever to the static IP address, and the only mx record was for mail. So the curious thing about this though is that before I setup the mx record and A record for the static IP, there was no record of it at all in the registrants site, at all, so I am still curious how doing an external nslookup or tracert to the static IP was associated to the correct domain.
Since there wasn't any local dns mx records either, so that one kinda caught me off guard, but we shall see if this fixes the issue, which I hope it does. Put in your static ip and check if port 25 is open or not. If it is then the DNS fix should take care of things. Better to try this than to wait 24 hours for DNS propagation to find out you still can't receive emails. Crap, well not the answer i was looking for, since it is closed, however a step in the right direction since the mx record wasn't setup correctly.
Well its just weird that if everything was setup to forward to my companies web servers, than how could it think that every single port is closed, because of course ports and 80 are open because of being a web server. The whole thing is screwy, but maybe this dns change will fix, if not partially fix my issues.

Select Start , point to Control Panel , point to Network Connections , and then select the local area connection that you want to configure. When you select this check box, you enable filtering for all adaptors, but you configure the filters individually for each adaptor.
The same filters don't apply to all adaptors. For each section, configure the security settings that are appropriate for your computer.
To specify the ports, you use the Add button. To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group or the Network Configuration Operators group on the local computer. Right-click the network connection where you want to configure inbound access control, and then select Properties.
