Helped me decide 2. Had useful details. Adult Written by MovieBufff January 18, Adult Written by lemonlover July 19, This may be even more innapropiate than Hellraiser. It is violent in a different way you would expect, and it is scary. There is nudity and ejactulation in the movie. It is not a movie you want to show when the kids are around. October 7, Excellent, nerve-wracking horror The Silence of the Lambs exhibits every quality of a well conceived and executed horror film; it has likable characters, building dread, stylized cinematography and disturbing concepts. There is on-screen violence including a brutal beating but most is only hinted at, via gruesome stories and brief glimpses of crime photos.

A naked, partially skinned corpse is examined. A man is eviscerated and hung from the ceiling. But in the end, the suspense and implication is the scariest. If kids can handle blood and gore, strong language and anomalous sexual content that may require discussion then this movie is worth a watch.

Helped me decide. Read my mind 1. Adult Written by mathewa August 15, Great mature movie but mature indeed Clarice and her efforts are inspiring but a long with the novel comes the dreaded. Social drinking is done.

Two characters are serial killers one of which is a cannibal. There is violence that includes gunshots corpses skins taken from murder victims. F--k and c--t are used c--t twice both in sex context f--k twenty-seven times fourteen times in sex context and also in sex context the non-cannibalistic serial killer as is pointed out to Clarice by the other one thinks of himself confusedly as transgender due to insecurity with who he is.

Positive role models. Never after that, for good reason, does Hannibal become trusted, though he is always entertaining to have around. Eventually, though, the demands of the plot begin to take precedence over people and plausibility.

Hannibal not only can help with the Buffalo Bill case, but he also knows who Buffalo Bill is. About halfway through, so does the audience, at which point the movie shifts to a lower, more functional gear even as the pace increases.

The screenplay, which is very effective in detailing character, is occasionally hard pressed to feed the audience enough information so that it can follow the increasingly breathless manhunt without a roadmap.

I'm told it helps if one has read the book, but reading the book shouldn't be a requirement to enjoy the film. At a crucial point the audience must also accept, as perfectly reasonable and likely, some instant surgery that allows the story to continue moving forward.

This may be hair-splitting. Yet the movie is so persuasive most of the time that the wish is that it be perfect. Although the continuity is sometimes unclear, the movie is clearly the work of adults.

The dialogue is tough and sharp, literate without being literary. Demme is a director of both humor and subtlety. The gruesome details are vivid without being exploited. He also handles the big set pieces with skill. The final confrontation between Clarice and the man she has been pursuing is a knockout -- a scene set in pitch dark, with Clarice being stalked by a killer who wears night-vision glasses.

Glenn is stalwart as Clarice's F. To learn more or opt-out, read our Cookie Policy. Movies like "The Silence of the Lambs" are very difficult to review. There's no question in my mind that many critics around the country will embrace this film as an excellent work - and the basis for that opinion is well-founded on several levels.

Yet, at the same time, the subject matter is so gruesome and its presentation so graphic that, for me at least, its impact was muted. That's not to say we're in "Friday the 13th" territory here. Though "Silence of the Lambs" is in many ways a high-gloss horror film, director Jonathan Demme pulls back on the gore in comparison to many modern movies in this arena. Yet, there is that scene where one man rips out another's tongue - with his teeth.

And the moment when a police guard is skinned alive. On the plus side, there are two incredible performances - by Jodie Foster as an FBI trainee and Anthony Hopkins as a chilling psychiatrist who is also a cannibal serial killer. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter Hopkins in a state hospital for the criminally insane to try to extract information from him that will help in the capture of another serial killer who's on the loose.
